End Club Recommends Vol. 3

End Club - Recommends Vol. 3

This month's Recommends is an eclectic summery session. We've split the camp this month between established and breaking acts; you will certainly have heard of quite a few of the artists featured on Vol 3, including a track from the increasingly popular Dan le Sac and Scroobius Pip, an epic Sebsatien Tellier soundscape, and a superb UK exclusive from Booka Shade. But there's also a stomper from Kistune newbees autoKratz, a hair tingler from Compost's Jay Shepheard and some lazy hazy beats from Black Grass on Catskills

Tracklist:

01. Sebastien Tellier - Divine (Midnight Juggernauts Remix) [Lucky Number]
02. Black Grass - Bless [Catskills]
03. Inland Knights - Lay On Me [Raise Recordings]

When looking back on the development of electronic dance music during the past twenty years in fast forward mode, one of the few remaining constants is the beat: living metre of the club, catalyser of motor activity, heartbeat of the dancer. But why?
Meanwhile, the trendsetters of the current electronica scene follow a more differentiated approach. Pace and rhythmicity, the syncopic chords and sequences and, last but not least, deep emotional worlds of sound are positioning this new form of electronic dance music clearly in a club context without the bass drum playing her sometimes even crushing role. Finally, energetic tracks with musicality and sensual passion can be produced without drums very well. Now, Elektrolux mastermind Alex Azary applies himself to this phenomenon by the first and definitely ground-breaking compilation in the still young year 2008. This is just a logical consequence as Alex Azary, together with his co-producer Gabriel Le Mar, already anticipated a comparable sound aesthetics at his gigs at the UK cult club Orbit, Leeds, about ten years ago. This hybrid of club music and experimental electronics also characterizes the joint productions of Alex Azary and Gabriel Le Mar's brand new Subsonic Park project in terms of pace, deepness and the unterstanding of dub. On "the Beatless Collection", two tracks of the project can be found. The other compilation contributors are Kompakt producers Gui Boratto and Hiroshi Watanabe (aka Kaito), Anders Trentemøller (Copenhagen) Joris Voorn, Chymera, Ovum and Delsin ambassador of Ireland, Taho or Deadmau5 ˆ the list just reads like the who is who of current club music.

Quantec - Unusual Signals [Echocord]

Quantec - Unusual Signals

Label: Echocord
Catalog#: echocord30
Format: 2x12" Vinyl, Album
Country: Denmark
Released: 1 May 2008
Genre: Electronic
Style: Dub Techno

Tracklist:

01.Amanita Muscaria
02.Deliberate
03.Unusual Signals/Reversion
04.Unusual Signals/Xeric Dub
05.Iboga
06.Yage
07.Panaleous

Following a succession of very well recieved 12" cuts for the likes of Styrax Leaves, Meanwhile and Millions of Moments, Sven Schienhammer returns to the home of some of his best work with a studied album of dub techno variants for Echocord. Sven's agenda is made clear with the title of the first track 'Amanita Muscaria', a familiar term to the trippier readers out there (Fly Agaric mushies to the more straight laced), signifying a love of or respect for psychedelic substances and sounds which are echoed in the esoteric dub depths of the opening cut. From here we plummet into the dense spaces of 'Deliberate', populated with wide open chord stabs and intangible analog ephemera that will sound lush on any system. From here on in the tracks seem to merge into a hazily tripped blur of feathered synth washes, barely audible sub undulations and glimpses of melody carried along by massively compressed kicks, lush stuff to completely give yourself up to. The track names become sign posts for the territory you're about to enter, with classic reverberating and psychedelic effects such as 'Iboga' and 'Yage' referencing deeply affecting states of mind induced through the course of the album. Of course, if it were that effective we probably wouldn't be able to sell you this album for legal reasons (or maybe we'd have to meet you after work by the goods entrance) but this is still some deadly and affected gear which we urge you to give a chance sometime soon, especially if you're a follower of the Deepchord/Basic Channel school of dub reduction. Awesome.

After the devastating excellence of ‘Audiomatique Volume 1.0’, mixed by venerable label don Martinez, it’s time for the masters to reclaim their techno crown. Steve Bug’s imprint is back with a second label compilation, seamlessly blended by N.Y.C.’s arch tech selector Adultnapper.

‘Audiomatique Volume 2.0’ is a descent into the deepest realms of electronic rhythm, veering from the spare crisp minimalism of Gui Boratto and Martin Eyerer’s ‘The Beach’, to the moody, strobe-lit melancholia of M_nus producer Gaiser’s ‘Found Guilty Mix’ of Adultnapper’s own ‘Juror no. 9’. A perfect snapshot of the label’s diverse roster, Adultnapper subtly builds the mix from stripped back, echoic grooves to tougher club battering technoid epics.
Electronic music’s brightest flames - Trentemøller, Robert Babicz, Joris Voorn, Martin Eyerer, Gui Boratto, Martinez and Adultnapper – all contribute to Audiomatique’s formidable reputation, weighing in with their heaviest tracks.

Having appeared on Platipus compilations Art Of Chill 2 and The Big Freeze Vol 1, Bliss seemed the natural choice to compile and mix the next Big Freeze instalment.

The musical world of Bliss is deeply rooted in a blend of Western, African and Classical musical influences representing the vast musical backgrounds of both members respectively. It also showcases an undercurrent of apparent melancholy with warmth that is otherwise hard to describe in words...

Steffen Aaskoven produced the classic chill out anthem “Café Del Mar” by Mental Generation, which featured an Underworld remix. He then met classically trained Marc-George Andersen in 1995 and together they formed Bliss.

Since releasing their debut album ‘Afterlife’ in 2001 they released two further albums; ‘Quiet Letters’ and ‘They Made History’ with various Bliss tracks appearing on nearly 60 compilations worldwide. Lately they have expanded their musical scope and have been producing music for TV such as CSI whilst continuing to remix artists they respect and admire.

The tracks they have chosen to include on Big Freeze Volume 2 highlight their diverse musical tastes, ranging from the more uptempo Charles Webster productions to the classical Ninth Gate piece.
Bliss have expertly woven together a seamless mix producing a deep yet uplifting, soulful, diverse collection of inspiring tracks.

The COMPOST BLACK LABEL delivers once again! Proper deep and rolling vibes to hypnotize the dancefloor" (Jimpster). Volume 3 brings together the brightest moments of the successful 12" series on a CD (mixed by Jay Shepheard). Feat. Phreek Plus One, Manuel Tur & DPLay, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Wagon Cookin, TJ Kong & Nuno Dos Santos, Jay Shepheard ... Three years ago Compost Records was breaking new grounds with the formation of the Blacklabel Series. The aim was to put Compost back on the dancefloor map and into the cases of the worlds leading international DJs. The formula was easy: less jazz and soul - more house and tekky stuff. The outcome wasn't the "typical" Compost sound anymore which people related with the Munich based label. This was bleepy and creepy, dark and pumping! Distinguishable by its artwork, colour and sound, the Blacklabel Series turned out to be the perfect imprint to release forward thinking club tracks, DJ tools and sonic experiments - "cause Zeitgeist won't stop!" (De:Bug on Blacklabel). To this day there are 30 releases on the Blacklabel imprint and the backing and praising from key players worldwide is growing with each new 12"…
